Common problems
How do I check a cash-out service before I send?
- Read its terms. They should name the company behind it and how to reach it.
- Check what Kenya's regulators say. The CMA register of licensees is at licensees.cma.or.ke. You can also ask the Central Bank of Kenya.
- Check which network it takes, and send only on that network.
- Send a small test first. Send more only after the test is in your M-Pesa balance.
- Never share your M-Pesa PIN. Safaricom staff never ask for it.
I got an M-PESA SMS, but my balance did not change
Treat it as fake. A real M-PESA message comes from M-PESA, not from a phone number.
Do not send anything back. Forward the fake message to 333 so Safaricom can act on the number.
A caller says I must do a reversal at an M-Pesa agent
Hang up. Safaricom says customer care will never call you and tell you to visit an agent for a reversal.
I sent USDT on the wrong network
A transfer sent on the wrong network may not arrive, and it can be lost.

It can be. For a Safaricom to Safaricom transfer, the sender can ask for a reversal within 24 hours by forwarding the M-PESA message to 456. Safaricom checks the request and the recipient's balance first. This is a risk on P2P, where the buyer is the sender.

Is crypto regulated in Kenya?
Yes. Kenya's Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 took effect on 4 Nov 2025. It makes the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority the regulators that license crypto firms. Firms already working then have until 4 Nov 2026 to comply. The licensing rules were published on 22 Jul 2026. In Nov 2025, the two regulators said they had not licensed any firm yet.
How can I check if a crypto firm is licensed in Kenya?
Ask the regulators. The CMA keeps a public register of licensees at licensees.cma.or.ke. On 22 Oct 2026 it had no category for virtual asset firms yet. You can also email the CMA at [email protected], or the Central Bank of Kenya at [email protected].
Which network should I use to send USDT to Dovo?
BNB Smart Chain, shown as BSC (BEP20) in most exchanges. Dovo does not accept USDT on Tron (TRC20), Ethereum or any other network.
How much should I send as a test?
A small amount. With Dovo, the smallest cash-out is 2 USDT. Your exchange may set its own withdrawal minimum, so check it before you send.
