Binance P2P scam checker
Tick what happened in your trade. See if it is safe to release.
Check my tradeThe short answer
On Binance P2P, release your USDT only after the KES shows in your M-Pesa balance, paid from the buyer's own verified name.
A text or a screenshot is not proof, because scammers fake both. Safaricom says a real M-Pesa message comes from M-PESA, not from a customer's line. Keep every message in the Binance P2P chat, and never release first on a promise to pay after. If a red flag below is true, do not rush the release: keep the order open and appeal in Binance if needed.
Check your P2P trade
You are selling USDT for KES on M-Pesa. Tick everything that is true right now.
Nothing ticked yet. Release only once the KES shows in your M-Pesa balance and the payer's name matches the buyer.

Binance P2P red flags
| Red flag | Why it matters | What to do | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| The KES is not in my M-Pesa balance yet | Binance says to check your account itself. A text or a screenshot is not proof: scammers fake both. | Do not release. Open M-Pesa and check your balance first. | Binance |
| The payment SMS came from a phone number | Safaricom says a real M-Pesa message comes from M-PESA, not from a customer's line. | Do not release. Forward the fake SMS to 333. | Safaricom |
| The payer's name is not the buyer's name on Binance | Binance says the payer's name must match the buyer's verified name. Paying from someone else's account breaks its P2P rules. | Do not release. Once the KES shows in your M-Pesa balance, refund it to the account that sent it and open an appeal. | Binance |
| The buyer wants to talk on WhatsApp or Telegram | Binance says to keep every message in the Binance P2P chat and not to trust offers from outside it. | Stay in the order chat. Do not trade outside Binance P2P. | Binance |
| Someone from "Binance support" asks me to release | Binance says scammers pose as its support in the order chat. Binance never emails you to complete a P2P trade. | Do not release. Check the contact in Binance Verify. | Binance |
| The buyer asks me to release first and pay after | Binance says to always release only after you receive the payment. | Do not release. Wait for the KES in your M-Pesa balance. | Binance |
| The buyer sent too much and wants the extra back | Safaricom says not to refund money sent by mistake. The sender asks for a reversal by forwarding the message to 456. | Do not send money back. Tell the sender to use 456, and open an appeal. | Safaricom |
| The buyer keeps pushing me to release fast | Binance says the scammer's goal is to make the seller release at once, without checking the transfer. | Slow down. Check your balance and the payer's name before you release. | Binance |
Safaricom only calls from 0722000000 and never asks for your M-Pesa PIN.
No buyer to check
With Dovo there is no P2P buyer. You send USDT on BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) and Dovo sends the KES to M-Pesa itself, usually in minutes. Cash outs start at 2 USDT, up to 200 USDT per 24 hours. You see the KES you get in Dovo before you confirm.
Questions
Is Binance P2P safe in Kenya?
When an order opens, Binance holds the seller's USDT in escrow and only releases it when both sides complete. The risk is on the seller: Binance says a scammer's goal is to make you release before you check the transfer. Use the checker above before every release.
How do I know an M-Pesa payment is real?
Open M-Pesa and check your balance. Do not trust the SMS alone. Safaricom says a real M-Pesa message comes from M-PESA, not from a customer's line. A fake one can look real, but its new balance may read LOCKED. Forward any fake message to 333.
What if the payer's name does not match the buyer?
Do not release. Binance says the name on the payment must match the buyer's verified name on Binance, and paying from someone else's account breaks its P2P rules. Once the KES shows in your M-Pesa balance, refund it to the account that sent it, open an appeal, and keep every detail of the payment.
The buyer sent too much KES and wants a refund. What do I do?
Do not send money back yourself. Safaricom says not to refund money sent by mistake. The sender should forward the M-Pesa message to 456 or call Safaricom. In a P2P trade, also open an appeal so Binance sees what happened.
Someone from Binance support messaged me. Is it real?
Probably not. Binance says scammers pose as its support in the P2P chat, and Binance never emails you to complete a P2P trade. Binance Verify checks a website, email, phone number, Telegram or social account. Safaricom only calls from 0722000000.
The buyer asks me to release first. Should I?
No. Binance says to always release only after you receive the payment. A buyer who asks you to release first, or who keeps pushing you to hurry, is a scam sign.
Can I get my USDT back after I release it?
Rarely. Binance says that once a seller releases on a fake payment, there is not much its support can do, even after an appeal. That is why every check comes before you press release.
How do I cash out USDT to M-Pesa without a P2P buyer?
Use a service that pays M-Pesa itself. With Dovo you send USDT on BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), and Dovo sends the KES to M-Pesa, usually in minutes. Cash outs start at 2 USDT, up to 200 USDT per 24 hours, and you see the KES you get before you confirm.
